Family Therapy
Stronger Connections & Improved Communication to Overcome Challenges
Family therapy provides a supportive space for families to understand patterns, navigate stress, and build skills that make home life feel more manageable. Kids Above All offers family therapy across Cook, DuPage, Kane, and Lake Counties, led by licensed clinicians trained in evidence-based, culturally responsive care. Sessions focus on practical tools, shared understanding, and steady progress that fits your family’s goals.
How Family Therapy Works
Therapy with Kids Above All helps families strengthen communication, build healthier patterns, and better understand one another’s experiences. By creating a space where everyone can be heard, therapy encourages clarity and reduces misunderstandings that often fuel conflict. Families learn practical skills they can use at home, such as emotion regulation strategies, ways to reconcile after disagreements, and tools for problem‑solving together. Over time, these skills deepen connection and trust, helping families navigate challenges with more confidence and less tension. With consistent support and small, achievable steps, family therapy fosters meaningful, lasting shifts in how families relate, communicate, and support one another.
- Format: 1–2 caregivers and one or more children/teens (configurable based on goals)
- Length: Typically 50–60 minutes per session
- Frequency: Weekly
- Location: In person at KAA sites or via secure telehealth
- Approach: Collaborative goal‑setting with clear, achievable steps you can practice between sessions
Family therapy can stand alone or complement individual therapy. Your clinician can help you decide the mix that best supports you and your family.
Who Family Therapy Supports
Families seek therapy for many reasons, including:
- Frequent conflict, communication breakdowns, or “walking on eggshells” at home
- Stress from life transitions (moves, new schools, blended families, caregiver changes)
- Grief and loss affecting the whole family
- Trauma and its impact on safety, trust, and regulation
- Behavior or emotion regulation challenges (tantrums, shutdowns, withdrawal)
- Co‑parenting concerns and differences in expectations or routines
- Sibling conflict or difficulty with roles and responsibilities
No issue is “too small.” If a pattern is causing stress or distance, family therapy with Kids Above All can help.
