Group Therapy

A Supportive Space to Connect, Heal, & Learn Alongside Others

Group therapy offers clients the chance to share experiences, build coping skills, and gain support from peers facing similar challenges. At Kids Above All, groups are facilitated by licensed clinicians trained in trauma‑informed care and are designed to be safe, structured, and empowering. This format allows clients to learn from one another, feel less alone, and develop new tools that support emotional well‑being and resilience.

How Group Therapy Works

Kids Above All offers group therapy weekly throughout the year. Facilitated by KAA’s licensed clinicians, groups are held for 5–12 participants, creating a supportive atmosphere that’s small enough for meaningful connection but large enough for diverse perspectives.

  • Group size: 5–12 participants
  • Session length: 90 minutes
  • Program duration: 8–10 weeks
  • Format: Typically in person; some groups may offer hybrid or virtual options depending on need

Each group focuses on a specific topic or shared experience, offering participants a consistent community as they work through the therapeutic process. Past groups have focused on bullying and peer conflict, grief, and loss of a loved one to homicide, but new groups are developed based on community needs, client requests, and emerging issues affecting youth, adults, and families.

Who Group Therapy Supports

Group therapy can benefit people who are:

  • Processing grief or loss
  • Coping with the impact of trauma or violence
  • Seeking support around emotional regulation or confidence
  • Navigating relationship challenges or bullying
  • Looking for a sense of connection and understanding
  • Interested in learning strategies and skills from both peers and clinicians

Groups also provide a space for clients who may not be ready for individual therapy, or who want additional support alongside it.

Why Group Therapy Helps

Group therapy offers several unique benefits:

  • Community and connection: Participants realize they’re not alone in their experiences.
  • Shared learning: Clients learn from others who are navigating similar challenges.
  • Skill development: Clinicians guide group members through coping strategies, emotional regulation tools, and communication skills.
  • Empowerment: Clients gain confidence by sharing their voices, witnessing growth in others, and recognizing strengths within themselves.

Group therapy often pairs well with individual therapy, giving clients additional perspectives and support.
